With each passing day, tech companies are putting more and more effort into innovation in order to win the consumer markets.
Strong competition leads to the introduction of devices which exceeded far than the expectations of the customers. Monitors are one of the many examples of these devices.
Back in the ’80s when people started using computers, monitors were large and bulky, having an odd look. But like every other technology, they have evolved into smart and slim LCDs/LEDs which give better display and have a sleek design.
Acer’s G227HQL is an example of modern-day monitors which comes packed with all essential features of a quality monitor in a budgeted range. Having a large 21.5-inch screen with 1080P resolution, Acer G227HQL proved to be an excellent choice for an average consumer who is looking for a quality display, maximum productivity, and fine multimedia experience.
This is not the first iteration of Acer in the display category. We have seen other elegant choices from Acer such as Acer G226HQL and Acer R240HY too. This one is an improved version of Acer G229HQL while R240HY still has an upper hand over it.
So let’s start our review with some specification details as usual.
|Aspect Ratio||1.78: 1|
|Screen Size||21.5 in|
|Weight||5.51 lbs. or 2.8 kg|
|Dimension||7.3 x 19.6 x 15.2 in|
Okay, that’s all for the specs.
Let’s make a first look on the device.
Acer G227HQL comes in black color having a widescreen display. When I say widescreen, I must mention it has the screen size of 21.5 in. Most of us prefer the widescreens these days and G227HQL is no exception.
This device is super slim and thanks to its zero frame design, it isn’t going to take much of your space. You can tilt the screen to a suitable angle of viewing. However, I observed that tilting requires a little bit of hassle. If you want to tilt the screen you have to use a screwdriver to lose the nut, giving the screen the desired tilt and then retighten the screw. I found many people complaining that this LED doesn’t have a tilt feature. But it has, although it is a bit difficult one. Other than that we have one port of VGA cable and other for HDMI.
Attached to the back, we have the X-shaped stand to hold the LED. You see this monitor is 5.5 lbs. and it must be difficult for the two-legged stand to balance it. Therefore X-shaped stands with four legs is introduced to this device. Nice job Acer.
So that was basically the design of the device. Next, I will be discussing some of its main attributes. The obvious one is the size. This device features an elegant display of 21.5 inches and for me, it’s more than enough. It is a good size and is now in the trend. Secondly, we may not call it an ultra-thin device but this one is surely thin. I found its design better than the Samsung and HP LEDs. The black color suits very well to it.
Screen resolution is something that should be praised. It has a full HD display of 1920×1080 to give you outstanding visuals. The quality is great and enjoyable without image distortion (One of the biggest flaws of widescreen LEDs). Also, the screen has IPS properties which means you can adjust it to any orientation and can still enjoy the display without getting yourself limited to any specific display angle and low-quality color reproduction. Acer has a built-in function for its G series of monitors and that is Acer Adaptive Contrast Management which automatically adjusts the colors for the best display.
The best thing I found in this device is the functionality of the smart connection. Have a movie or game on your smartphone and want to watch it on a bigger screen? No issue. Just connect your smartphone using MHL port and there you go. Additionally, your mobile device will be charging too.
There are other ports too which give you the freedom to connect to other devices such as gaming consoles and media players. The smart connection is really a need of the hour and must-have feature for all monitors.

Visual safety is a term not known to most of us but is equally important as other types of safety. Acer has used mercury-free white LED to get your eyes saved of any visual impairment. Furthermore, thanks to EcoDisplay, G227HQL reduces electricity usage by 68 percent. THAT is almost three-quarters of saving. So in my opinion, the use of environmentally friendly technologies really make this monitor a worth-considering choice.
However, I noticed some flaws in this device. Around the edges, sometimes light bleeding occurs. I don’t know why this happens but for me, it’s a technical fault and must be removed. Also, you have to download the required drivers from Acer’s website to get the Full HD display. Anyways, other than that it is a nice device which over-delivers.
Finally, this is a budgeted device. Other devices on competition such as Acer R240HY and ASUS VS228H-P have almost the same features but they have higher prices as compared to G227HQL. Let me repeat, if you are looking for a device with a quality display, maximum productivity, and fine multimedia experience, this one is for you. There’s no other better choice.
